THE OUTBOARD DOCTOR
So,
your motor is running rough and does not idle right.
You take the cowling off and look, not really knowing
what you are seeing, but not wanting to spend a
lot of money getting it fixed. On the other hand,
you do want it running right, so you can go boating
or fishing. You ask some of your buddies and get
the standard response, like “that happened
to mine and I did this.”
Here is a novice idea for this boat owner and
many others-We Diagnose-You Fix. There is such
a service available. You can read about it and
meet the owner at www.theoutboarddoctor.com. The
Outboard Doctor is celebrating one full year in
business with many happy customers from Florida
to California and places in between.
The Doctor has his wall full of credentials from
Mercury, Johnson, Evinrude, MerCruiser, and Mariner.
He has had a Brick and Mortar shop for almost 30
years and is still running a Mercury and Johnson/Evinrude
Service Dealership. He also spends much of his
time on the phone helping boat owners all over
the country who have the desire and ability to
do their own work, but need diagnostic help.
The World-Wide-Web has made it possible to expand
a business that was limited to customers within
a 200 mile radius of the Brick and Mortar location
to anywhere there is phone service. That is good
for the Doctor. It is also good for the customer
who wants to do his own work and save lots of dollars.
There are some things the customer needs to know
about the service. 1. The service will cost $60/diagnosis.
2. Customer can pay with credit card, paypal, or
personal check/money order. 3. Customer needs to
have some mechanical ability, which can be determined
during the initial consultation call. 4. Customer
can buy parts from the Doctor or from his local
parts store. Not only does the Outboard Doctor
customer save money in labor charges, but also
saves gas money because he does not have to pull
his boat anywhere to get it fixed.
This service is not for everyone. Some fixes require
specialized tools that are cost prohibitive for
the customer to buy. The Doctor has some tools
available to rent, but not all. Some jobs are more
extensive than the average customer will want to
attempt. The Doctor can guide the customer in deciding
if his fix is possible or if the unit needs to
be fixed by a professional.
